Some styles are designed. This one was excavated.
Charmora started as a simple question: what did XenForo's old "Charm" look actually feel like, and could it survive the jump to 2.3.11 without losing what made it worth remembering? A few hundred hours of LESS, cascade debugging, and pixel-squinting later — here's the answer.
The Look
Charmora lives somewhere between a harbor at dusk and a well-worn brass fitting. The chrome runs deep navy — #31597f, settling into near-black once you flip to dark mode — layered with soft blue glass that catches light instead of just reflecting it. Against that cool foundation, gold does the talking: not the loud, cartoonish gold of a "premium" badge, but a warm, brushed #e3b64c that shows up exactly where your eye needs it — underlining the active tab, framing an avatar, warming a hover state — and disappears everywhere else.
Nothing in the palette is decorative filler. Every blue, gold, and neutral routes through the same set of custom properties, so light and dark mode aren't two separate designs sharing a name — they're one design breathing differently depending on the light.
A few details worth actually noticing:
- The nav underline doesn't just appear — it expands from the center like a thin line of poured gold, and it's shared correctly between a menu item and its dropdown arrow, so hovering anywhere on a tab lights up the whole thing as one piece.
- The active tab sits behind genuine frosted glass — a soft blur, a whisper of gold wash, a hairline of light along the top edge — tuned separately for light and dark so it never looks like an afterthought in either.
- The postbit frames each avatar in a blue-to-navy gradient ring with a gold hairline underneath, and the username sits in a soft pill instead of shouting in raw link-blue.
- Small things got the same attention as big ones — the online indicator is an actual dot of color, not a stray icon; node stats sit on the same baseline whether you're hovering or not; nothing drifts half a pixel out of place.

extra.less genuinely empty and safe for your own edits — no hunting through thousands of lines of someone else's CSS to find the one you added. Charmora isn't trying to reinvent what a forum looks like. It's trying to prove that "classic" and "current" aren't opposites — that the right blue and the right gold, handled with enough care, still hold up.
